The Sorcerer’s Workshop, Tea Party with a View, and Paradise Pier at Night

Disney California Adventure

We had a lot of fun in the Sorcerer’s Workshop, part of the animation attraction in California Adventure. I particularly like the decor and the designs of the flip-style animation viewers. They made for some fun photos, though I wish I was better with low-light settings.

The Tea Cups have always been one of my favorite rides in Disneyland. When I was little my mom and I would try to be the fastest spinning cup in the group, but my dad never much cared for the spinning. So, being the big guy he is, he’d always brace his knees against the wheel so we couldn’t spin it (≧▽≦) Ah memories…

Anyway, one of the things I’ve always liked were the lanterns above the cups. At night they shine multiple colors down on the ride a create a gorgeous effect on the spinning cups. During the day I’ve never really payed them much attention, but this time I happened to look up and notice a view I’d never really appreciated before.

Next time we go back, I’d like to try a shot like this at night.

Of course, the view from the cups is always entertaining too.

Kudos to my camera, which I quickly discovered is awesome at auto-focusing while spinning.

At the end of our first night we finally got the chance to catch World of Color, the nightly water show that takes place in front of Paradise Pier in California Adventure. It. Was. Amazing~ I watched the event premier online, where they streamed the entire debut show and was blown away by it. But there’s just no comparison. Oh and don’t even get me started on the special Tron: Legacy ending, with the lights projected on the rollercoaster. Talk about an epic end to the night.

We managed to get right up front for the show (which was a lot of fun, it was like being immersed in the entire thing) so I tried to get a little creative with the view. I was inspired by a Disney Blog post by photographer Paul Hiffmeyer, but knew full well I wasn’t going to produce anything that good, haha. Especially without a tripod handy, I had to get creative by using a cement lighting stand in front of the metal fencing. My arms tangled in the bars, trying not to look like I was doing something suspicious, I propped my camera up a zig-zagged strip of metal and hoped for the best.

Hm, not bad for a first try I suppose ( ・ω・) Though not nearly at the level I’d like it be, it gives me enough hope to go back and try again.

Long Overdue Update – Return to the Grid

Dragging my ass~

The boyfriend and I went to Disneyland for a couple days with some friends since they were having a Spring special sale on 2-day park hopper passes. It was the perfect excuse to get back down there for ElecTRONica and take a much-needed vacation.

He kind of surprised me when he was actually considering season passes… we did a lot of talking and on our second day we were getting our pictures taken for our passes! So expect lots of Disney pictures, we may even be upgrading later if ElecTRONica is going for the rest of the year~

Anyway, I’ve been meaning to update with some of the pictures I took but things just kept getting in the way, and I just kept putting it off. After looking through the pictures to upload I decided to spread out the update so I could post all of my favorite pictures without overloading a single post.

So to start off, here are some of the shots from ElecTRONica. I didn’t take nearly as many this time because we actually danced, played games, had a drink (ok only I did, and only because I wanted the cool blinking cup), and just relaxed listening to the music after two long days of endless walking.

I did have a bit of a nerd overload when I saw this though.

I had to be dragged away from it, Michael was getting bored while I was nerding over every little detail.
The actual lighting wasn’t as blue, but I liked the effect.

Oddly enough the same DJ that played when we went in December was playing on this night too. The set was much different but we still enjoyed the music.

Disney ElecTRONica

I love this center lighting display. It has a very industrial club vibe, the light at the top reminds me of the portal from Tron.

Bonus pictures: My vacation swag.

I loooooooooooooooove this thing! I can’t believe I got ahold of one! I had no idea they even made Kevin Flynn’s white disc until I saw someone at ElecTRONica walk by with one. We popped into the toy store by the entrance and asked if they had any, the guy walked into the back noting that they’re pretty rare and they might not have one. A minute later he emerged with the last white Identity Disc in Disneyland/California Adventure. Even the girl who rang me up said people have gone nuts looking for this!

Next time we go back I’m going to get Rinzler’s and eventually Sam’s to complete the set, but this is definitely the highlight of my random toy collection!

More Disneyland pictures later, and you can visit my Flickr page or read about our first visit to ElecTRONica for more images from the epic Tron party.

Shameless Plug! If you could, please take a moment to vote for Michael and I in this little Disney contest. I’d greatly appreciate it!

Welcome to the Grid – Nerding it up at Disney’s ElecTRONica

So, I apologize for the long absence. More so to myself as I had intended to keep this updated regularly to keep me on track. Alas, life gets in the way and since I can’t make money sitting on the computer I must endure the holiday hours at my retail job.

All that aside I’m pretty sure you can guess what this post is about.

My boyfriend and I had a great time at Disneyland but the highlight of the day was walking into California Adventure and seeing that crowd gathered around the small pre-show stage. Before I knew it the Portal was open.

It was time to step into the Grid.

Right about now my inner nerd is going “FFFFFEJKKBSRBJSR”. Then we rounded the corner and walked under the Recognizer, and my outer nerd went “FFFFESKLNRJSNSOMG”.

The entire atmosphere was just… simply amazing. The decorations, the lights, the music. Oh dear god the music! DJ Michael Paul was spinning everything from happycore  and hardstyle to Daft Punk (a fitting touch since they did an AMAZING job on the soundtrack). Later in the evening he even mixed ATC’s “Around the World” and Darude’s “Sandstorm“. I would pay good money for those mixes if Disney would sell them! I’d pay a decent amount for the whole set, it was that damn good.

Though the very first thing we did was hop in line for the exclusive 3D preview of the movie, which took place in the theatre that normally hosts the Muppets 3D Show.

After that epic dose of awesome my nerdism was in full throttle as we wandered around the rest of the party. One of my favorite parts of ElecTRONica was the End of Line Club. How can you not love that couch!

I think it goes without saying that I will have that couch in my house someday.

This is pretty much every nerd’s dream, to hang out at Flynn’s Arcade. Though on a Saturday night it was a little too packed for my tastes. I didn’t want to wait around forever just to play Galaga for 5 minutes. We did get a chance to race some Lightcycles on a Wii just outside though. I totally whooped my boyfriend’s ass at Lightcycles =D

Now that’s modern art.

If you’d like to see even more pictures, visit my Flickr.

Though I think one of the biggest highlights of the night was the show put on by Laserman. Seriously this guys is wicked. A video can do no justice to how amazing this show looks in person. I’d go back just to see it again.

Hell who am I kidding, ElecTRONica alone is worth the price of the tickets. I want to go back so bad! Plus Poreotics is back performing until the 30th, and the event is every night now instead of just on the weekends.

I’m seriously considering using my next check to go back! (>∇<)This was one of the best Disney events I’ve ever been to. Music, light shows, Tron, dancing… all within Disneyland? Yeah that’s pretty much all I wanted for X-mas.

In honor of the coming holidays.

, originally uploaded by Teknicolor Dahlia.

I took this last year when my friends randomly took me to Disneyland while we were in LA for two Dir en grey concerts (best friends ever, seriously I love them). It was the first time I ever saw the holiday decorations at Disneyland and I fell in love. I didn’t have my tripod with me, but I just had to try.

It looks better the smaller it gets, haha.

With the imminent release of Tron: Legacy (which I am going crazy for) California Adventure has been transformed into the Grid, and I’ve been wanting to get down there to see it since it started.

Well I finally have the money. So my boyfriend and I are getting a couple park hopper passes for the day and taking a trip down to Anaheim.
And then it hit me all the holiday decorations are up.

I am so freaking excited.

Can you tell I love Disneyland yet?
